I Never Thought I’d Be This Excited About a Prenatal Gummy

By Elizabeth Clark, Founder of Looma Birth

This post is sponsored by Needed, a brand I genuinely recommend and personally use.

There is a part of me that is laughing right now writing this post. Not because the subject matter is funny, it’s not, but because I genuinely am I excited about a gummy.

If you’ve been around, you know my story and that I now have a middle school kid and I lament on how much the world has changed since I had my first kid. Well, be grateful you’re getting pregnant now my friends, because 13+ years ago, I really struggled with my prenatal vitamins. There were big box brand names making super generic vitamins that honestly were just women’s vitamins with a new label on it. I tried doing the research, figuring out what I needed, asking my OB to order labs to check my own Vitamin D levels, and the result? Literally filling my palms full of various pills to try to swallow every single day. Yuck.

I have been saying it a lot this year, but it is wild how much has changed since I became a mama and started working in the birth world. Thankfully, there are a million reasons why it’s easier and better to become a mama now than then. When Needed came onto my radar years ago, I really loved their vision. It was 2 moms who built something because they wanted better nutrition for moms, themselves, and their families too. It mirrored my own wants and drive with creating Looma, and I have loved watching them grow. Honestly, it’s probably why I’ve always felt so connected to Needed and it’s one of the very few brands I professionally recommend!

So much of what I’ve built over the years has been about creating what I wish I had when I was becoming a mom for the first time. Better information. Better support. Less overwhelm. Things that actually make pregnancy, birth and postpartum feel a little easier to navigate.

So fast forward to Needed launching their new Prenatal Multi Gummy and asking for a shout out, and I’m sitting here in my kitchen laughing.

Needed Prenatal Multi Gummy

First of all: they taste SO GOOD.

Like, genuinely good. I actually save mine for when I want something sweet because my three little prenatal gummies can almost replace my need for dessert (on a good day). Which is definitely not something I ever expected to say about a prenatal vitamin!

But here’s what really matters to me: they didn’t just make something that tastes delicious like candy and slap “prenatal” on the bottle, because that isn’t good enough for me or my mamas. This is not the vitamin world of the early 2010s.

Needed spent four years developing these gummies specifically because they wanted to develop a nutrient-dense gummy option that overcame common formatting limitations. Many gummies on the market sacrifice nutrient density and efficacy due to format constraints. Needed’s Prenatal Multi Gummy has 4x more nutrition than the average leading prenatals‡ and 8x more nutrition than the leading prenatal gummy.‖

Their Prenatal Multi Gummy has 17 nutrients in three gummies, including methylfolate, vitamin D, B6, B12, selenium, zinc, and choline. Right there alone would have been 5 separate pills for me when I was pregnant with my first.

I talk a lot with my clients about how small steps will make a difference. You don’t need to head out and walk 3 miles, but take 3 intentional breaks during your day to walk. Break up your squats to do a small set after every meal. And, well, I truly feel like Needed just gave us an easy win for getting our prenatal vitamins too. That’s why the ease of these matters to me almost as much as what’s in them. Three gummies. They taste legitimately good. I don’t have to psych myself up to take them. And I actually remember to take them because I look forward to them.

The best part? Needed intentionally didn’t over pack them with some of the “extras” that some people want/need, but not everyone. They intentionally keep iron and omega-3s separate from the gummy so you can still customize those to your body’s own needs. Yes, you might need some pills along with these tasty gummies, but they also offer the Prenatal Multi Gummy + Choline bundle for those wanting additional choline. Their Choline offers 500 mg of clinically studied choline chloride per capsule!

Of course, there is no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to pregnancy nutrition, and your individual needs are always worth discussing with your provider.

But for me? I think the best endorsement I can give is probably the simplest one:

I actually want to take these.

They taste good. They’re easy. They fit into real life. And yes, sometimes my three little prenatal gummies are legitimately my dessert. And after remembering that fistful of pills 13 years ago, that feels like a pretty major upgrade. (And no, I’m not going for baby #4 but I am still replenishing my body from all my pregnancies).
